Enhance photo quality with AI
Low-resolution, slightly blurry or heavily compressed photos come back sharper and larger. The Real-ESRGAN model removes compression blocks and noise while it doubles or quadruples the size. Your image never leaves your device.
How it works
- Choose or drop a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Pick 2× or 4× and press Upscale. The model works through the image in tiles; the bar shows how far it is.
- Compare before and after, then download the result as PNG or JPG.
Questions
What kind of photos improve most?
Small photos from old phones, screenshots, images saved many times as JPG, and pictures downloaded at thumbnail size. Out-of-focus or motion-blurred photos improve only a little: the model sharpens, but it cannot recover detail that was never captured.
What does the AI actually do?
It uses Real-ESRGAN (the compact "general" model), a neural network trained to turn small, slightly blurry or compressed images into larger ones with sharp edges and plausible texture. It works at 4×; for 2× the 4× result is scaled down by averaging, which keeps it crisp. It does not invent faces or text that are not there; very small or heavily damaged images still come out soft.
How large an image can I upscale?
On a computer: up to 2.1 MP for 4× (a 1920 × 1080 photo fits) and 4.2 MP for 2×. On a phone: 0.5 MP for 4× and 1 MP for 2×. Larger images are refused with a message rather than crashing the tab; shrink the image first or choose 2×.
How long does it take?
It depends on your device. Browsers with WebGPU (recent Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers on most computers) use the graphics card and are much faster; others run on the processor. A progress bar counts the image tiles as they finish, and you can cancel at any time.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Your image never leaves your device. The first time, your browser downloads the upscaling model (4.3 MB) and the AI engine (about 3.8 MB) from this site and keeps them for next time. After that the work happens on your computer or phone; there is no upload, no server-side copy, no account and no tracking script on this site.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no daily quota, and nothing is added to your result. Because your own device does the work, it costs us nothing per image.
